I will be covering the basics of ERS.
Items Needed:
- Standard 52 playing card deck
Objective:
To be the last player with cards.
How to Play:
Deal the cards face down out to every player (there is no limit, however, four players seems to be an ideal number). Throughout the duration of the game, the cards that the player is holding must always be face down.
Determine the order of play (one common way is to go with the player who has the highest bottom card). Each player takes turns flipping the top card of their deck onto a pile in the center of the players.
This goes onto until one of two events happen:
- A face card or Ace is played (from now on in this tutorial, an Ace is considered a face card). When a face card is played, say by Player X, the next player then has a certain number of chances to play a face card. For a Jack, one chance, Queen, two chances, King, three chances, Ace, four chances. If the player plays a face card, then the process repeats again with the next player. However, if that player does not play a face card, Player X takes the whole pile and adds it to the bottom of his deck. If the player playing the cards does not have a sufficient number of cards (ie. Player X lays down an Ace, and the next player (Player Y) has 3 cards, the player after Player Y continues for Player Y if Player Y does not play a face card).
- A slap. Before the game, players decide on what kind of "slaps" are valid in the respective game. If a certain combination of cards fits the criteria for a slap, the first player who slaps the pile takes the pile and adds it to the bottom of his or her deck. However, if a person slaps when there is no possible slap comibination, that player "burns" a card, which is taking the top card of his or her deck and placing it on the bottom of the pile (that card is usually not valid for slaps). Slaps can be done when a player is playing cards in response to a face card.
When a player gets a pile, that player starts the play again, going in the same order as before.
What are slappable combos?
What would dictate a slap? This section will cover the combinations of cards that would dictate a slap.
- Double
When two consecutive cards that are equal are played in a pile. For example, if Player X plays a 7, then Player Y plays a 7, then it is considered a double. - Sandwich
When two cards that are equal are played in a pile with another card between them. For example, 9-3-9.
There are a lot more slappable combos...I'll post them later. Any questions?
