What is Guitar Hero?
Guitar Hero is a game made for many consoles by many developers (which include Acclaim and more). The game can be played in multiple ways, one of the most popular being with the guitar that the game comes with, which has five buttons, each of a different colour (Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange, in order of the buttons respectively), an alternavite is to play with the controller (Available to PlayStation, Wii, and Xbox (?)).

How is the game played?
The game is played by using your fingers to hold down the fret buttons (see the colours above), and strum when the colour reaches the fret (usually displayed at the bottom of the screen). The mode you are playing on depends on how many frets you use, see below for more details on this. You will also noticed that some notes are "stretched" for this you are required to hold down the fret button for the duration of the note, strumming will interupt the note, and so will letting go the fret.

There are four different modes when I begin playing, which one do I choose?
To start out you can either play Easy mode (recommended for beginners), and this mode uses the first three colours; Green, Red and Yellow, and is the slowest mode. Medium uses the Blue button and the speed increases slightly. Hard uses the orange button and the speed has changed a lot since Easy mode. Expert is the hardest mode of all, it uses all buttons, hits 99% of the notes in the song (You will notice in easy not all the guitar notes are hit, in Expert they are), and the speed is increased again.

What is the aim of the game?
The aim of the game is to hit enough notes to not be kicked off the stage, being kicked off will result in the song being failed, and you will have to retry it to pass it. There are also eight tiers with 5 songs on each (including encores, after 3/4 songs on each tier are completed.) On certain tiers you will have guitar battles, these include, Tom Morello, Slash, and Lou; the Devil.

Does Guitar Hero have cheats?
Yes it does, these cheats include: Performance Mode (Doesn't show the frets for the song, so you have to play the song without any frets on the screen.), Air Guitar (your guitarist doesn't hold a guitar on stage), Hyper Speed (goes up to x5, increases the speed of the song, but widens the gap between frets to keep the original song duration), and others, these cheats can be found by googling "Guitar Hero 3 Cheats".

How many songs are there?
Guitar Hero has well over 60 songs, 42 all up on the Set List, and roughly 20 more on the Bonus songs list, most can be bought, while some can be earned (e.g. Through the Fire and Flames is unlocked by beating the Devil.).

Do you have any tips?
Well, I do have some but not many, in some cases, on easy/medium, placing each of your fingers on a fret button of it's own, can help you not get mixed up with which button to hit, although it gets easier in future to just use whatever you can to hit buttons.

In some places, rather than using all your fingers to hit notes, you can slide your index finger down the fret buttons, to make it easier.

When notes are faster, and struming up, or down tires your hand out, you can strum both up and down at the same time.

Note: Playing on the Wiimote is hella hard. Don't try it

Also I read a tip somewhere else, the guy recommended starting on Medium rather than Easy for new people. It's harder at first but he pointed out that Easy sometimes leaves some nasty habits with the game that can really mess you up when you go to the upper levels. I'm not sure how valid that is but all I know is that after I played Easy, I played Medium, then it was impossible for me to play any songs on Hard. Then it took a couple weeks or months so I got rid of my stupid habits when I was a beginner at the game and now I can complete most songs on Hard, and some ones on Expert.

I tried Cliffs of Dover on Medium. There were certain portions that were easy, but it was the first time in a LONG time that I 3-starred that song...

Yeah, or you can just play with the Wiimote and no guitar. It's tough... especially if you play it with one hand.
