Ever since we started Project Enigma, then known as J-Network, we've never really been a fan of phpBB, due mostly to personal preference. We preferred Invision Power Board, especially since we've followed it throughout most of its life (I believe we used it when it was 1.1.X)

However, when IPB 2.0 came out, we had to stop using it. Why? Because it costs over $100 to obtain a license. Well, after much debate, and much anger towards phpBB, we finally decided to get it.

So here it is! Expect many changes due to our experience with IPB!

Yeah, I hope this proves to be better than phpbb (which it should be :-P)

Forgive me for ignorance but what, other than obvious visual changes, is the difference between the old and new version?

Hehe, no problem.

It's a lot more customizable than phpBB, at least for us (since we're more experienced with IPB).

We can create our own BBCode tags, which an example of one I created is the highlight one, like this. We can also moderate a lot better as well. Since this software uses a lot of AJAX, it allows for faster things, such as editing a post.

Also, an advantage is that those spambots tend to target phpBB forums mostly, so we should be getting fewer of those :)

Invision Power Board is much, much more powerful than phpbb. A lot of features that you need to mod for in phpbb are included in default in Invision Power Board. To navigate Gmail, it uses something called AJAX. Invision Power Board uses AJAX as well. This makes it so there can be much more features without the loading time, like the 'Quick Access' box as you post.

Also, it makes moderation easier for the admins and moderators, and it's an interface that we're more familiar with.

Sorry to be beating a dead horse, but have you checked out phpBB3? It's very nice, but I've found it a little harder to administer than 2 though…

Yeah I've installed and used it before. I actually really like it and I want to try it out, but not for Zantherus though. Just for fun.
