Oi, recently I went to a therapist/psychiatrist because I was having some severe anxiety issues, and you'd be surprised how much anxiety leads to both stress and depression. I didn't even know that I was anxious until I went to the therapist, but then after realizing I was anxious, I got to learn some simple methods on how to rid the anxiety, and now I'm a happier person.
Also, exercise. Exercise always helps both the body and mind, and you'll probably be a generally happier person. These are two things that have helped me recently, as opposed to two months ago, I'm in MUCH better shape. Mentally, that is.

I feel that taking psychology and reading a lot about the brain, neuroscience, and such has given me tools to better control my emotions, and just various small aspects of my life in general. It is also important to have a perspective on the world that is positive or at least holistic.
